IUF in solidarity with Wales workers and residents

Patentia Villagers march opposing Wales Closure on January 27, 2016The International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Associations abbreviated IUF as per the attached letter to the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) and the National Association of Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Employees (NAACIE) has expressed their solidarity with the workers of Wales Estate.  The IUF is also opposed to the closure of Wales Estate

The IUF is comprised of 412 affiliated unions representing 10 million workers in 126 countries. The body is organizing its affiliates worldwide to support our country’s sugar workers.

The Wales workers and residents would be assured that their struggle is gaining support and backing so much needed at this time.

Today (February 10, 2016), two (2) marches will converge at the head of the main street of Bell West, West Bank Demerara where a public meeting commencing at 17:00h (5.00pm) will take place. It is expected to have in its attendance workers, farmers, housewives, shop owners and others as the struggle for the non-closure of Wales Estate is gaining momentum.
