GAWU Women Forum salutes Cde Janet Jagan

The GAWU Women’s Forum joins with the Guyanese people in extending condolences to the family and friends of the late Cde Janet Jagan. Cde Janet was an incomparable woman and along with her husband, Dr. Cheddi Jagan, former Honorary President of our Union, spent their lives ensuring a better Guyana for us all.

In her May Day Address, Women’s Forum Chairperson, Cde Gaietri Baron stated “we wish to salute the memory of the late Janet Jagan, who was a champion of the cause of workers, as well as women rights.

We are grateful for the role she has played in giving leadership and continued solidarity to the working people of Guyana. May her soul rest in peace and may her zeal and commitment to the cause of the ordinary man and woman be followed by many.”

Cde Janet’s activism and workers’ bias will forever live on. Today, we in the GAWU Women Forum pledge to continue the work of this truly remarkable woman.
