GAWU’s Easter Message: Making the Easter Hope Reality
Hundreds of members of the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) are devoted members of the Christian community through their various denominations.
That is only one reason for GAWU to recognise the mixed emotions which this Easter weekend evokes in Christians. The culmination of the forty-day period of Lent and the Holy Week, however, culminates with the RESURRECTION – the Christian glory and hope, the very bedrock of their faith.
For if the Crucifixion did not result in the resurrection and ascendancy of Christ, Christians would have little evidence of a Living God – the hope, future and salvation of their lives here. GAWU congratulates the followers of Christ, especially as Guyana and the world experience the challenges of selfishness, greed and their dire earthly consequences.
If Christians want their Lenten, sacrificial abstainences, their increased religious activities and their Easter – time, pain – and joy – to be translated into the reality of kindness and goodness, they must join others in creating opportunities to be tolerant, understanding and even productive.
Hope in one thing. A peaceful productive future is another. Easter presents its Christians adherents with endless opportunity to live the lives of exemplary citizens with a second glorious chance at life.
May the Easter Hope signal Everlasting Effort and Eventual fulfillment for all Guyana.
Let the symbols of the Easter Eggs and Cross buns, the soaring KITES remind us all of that hope we must all make reality.
GAWU wishes all Guyana a Wonderful Easter 2009
