GAWU’s 2009 Youman Nabi Message
The peoples of the world, faced as they are with the relentless global challenges of financial and economic, melt-downs which threaten their countries’ normal existence, with the challenges of poverty, disease and crime, need the balm and reassurance of spiritual guidance and comfort.
The Holy Prophet Mohammed (on who be peace) founder of a faith that is the, reportedly, the fastest growing religion in the world, was a Messenger who fashioned a set of religious, spiritual and moral principles to guide man-kind through the morass they often create for themselves. Islam teaches discipline, devotion to a higher Creator and continuous consideration for the less fortunate amongst us. Those virtues all help to keep Believers strong and resilient to face life’s worldly woes.
It is against that background of understanding that the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) salutes Guyana’s Islamic community as Muslims celebrate the joyous observance of the Birth and life of their Prophet (on who be peace). Guyana’s human problems mirror the global conditions of the world’s less fortunate. The Union’s brief message of solidarity with the Islamic teachings and ideals is that the country’s Muslims continue to be exemplary citizens of compassion and practical examples of co-operation, whereby the more fortunate assist those in need and the principles of the powerful worldwide faith inform the behavior of its own local followers and all Guyana.
Happy Youman Nabi to the Muslim Community.
