GAWU congratulates NDC of Grenada
The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) is pleased to express congratulations to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of Grenada on its victory in that island-state general elections held earlier this week.
Led by now Prime Minister Tillman Thomas the NDC secured a people’s victory winning eleven (11) out of the maximum of fifteen (15) seats. GAWU shares in the joy of this working-class triumph in a CARICOM sister-state that we hold dear.
Guyana has both business interests and a sizeable Guyanese representation in Grenada. After the devastation of Hurricane Ivan in 2004 Guyana’s assistance and military/engineering manpower helped in the international rehabilitation of the Spice Island. GAWU had also contributed its bit.
Especially dear to GAWU is the lasting fraternal relations between GAWU and the Grenada Technical and Allied Workers Union (GTAWU). So congratulations are also in order for our Brothers and Sisters of Grenada’s most progressive trade union and our consistent Comrade Senator Chester Humphery, as we note the NDC’s post-election mission “to rescue Grenada.”
GAWU will continue its fraternal relations with the GTAWU and indeed all the people of Grenada. Once again, congrats to Mr Tillman Thomas, the leader of the NDC.
We also wish Dr Keith Mitchell, the Leader of the defeated New National Party (NNP) and his Party well in their future endeavours.
Long Live GAWU/GTAWU solidarity!
Long Live Guyana-Grenada Relations!
